The State Bureau of Investigation uncovered a large-scale fuel theft scheme in a military unit

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation exposed a large-scale fuel embezzlement scheme intended to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The head of the fuel and lubricant storage department of one of the military units in the Mykolaiv region, acting together with a subordinate, systematically drained and sold diesel fuel intended for the army.

To prevent illegal circulation, the fuel was specially marked with a red dye. However, this did not stop the organizers of the scheme. Stolen fuel was taken outside the district and sold to local farmers at discounted prices – 25 hryvnias per liter with dye and 28 hryvnias without it.

According to preliminary estimates, since the beginning of 2025, the perpetrators sold at least 13 thousand liters of diesel fuel. On May 7, during the transfer of more than 125,000 hryvnias for a batch of 5,000 liters, they were detained.

The extras were charged with suspicion under 4 Art. 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — in the seizure of military property under martial law, committed by a group of persons using their official position based on a prior conspiracy. This article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 15 years.

Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure and removal from positions is being resolved. The DBR establishes the full circle of persons involved in the arrangement. Procedural management in the case is carried out by the Mykolayiv Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Southern region.
