The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Ukraine without Russia’s amendment and mention of its aggression

UN Security Council approved the resolution regarding Ukraine proposed by the USA. It was supported by 10 countries, while 5 abstained. The Russian amendment, which provided for the “termination of the Ukrainian conflict” by eliminating “its root causes”, was not taken into account.

This option does not contain a direct definition of Russia as an aggressor, but only calls for an “immediate end to the conflict.” The American project calls the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine a “Russian-Ukrainian conflict” and calls for its end as soon as possible and the establishment of a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.

The document consists of a single sentence in which the General Assembly expresses its sorrow for the loss of civilians, emphasizes the importance of maintaining international peace and security in accordance with the UN Charter, and calls for a quick end to the conflict and the establishment of a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia. In the text proposed by the USA, Russia is not called an aggressor country.

We will remind you that on February 24, the UN General Assembly supported two resolutions on Russia’s war against Ukraine – a joint one from more than 50 countries, including Ukraine, and a separate American one. Both received 93 “yes” votes each.
