Spain will be the first to introduce a digital “porn passport”

The new system will begin to operate by the end of summer. It is expected to be available by the end of summer and will be voluntary.

Spain is preparing to introduce a digital “porn passport”. And although it has already been criticized due to its complexity, it is not worth waiting for an alternative to appear soon.  About this write edition of Politico

It is noted that its official name is Digital Wallet Beta (Digital Wallet Beta – Ed.). The application presented by Madrid on July 1 will allow online platforms to check whether a viewer of porn has reached the age of 18.

In case of age verification, users will be given 30 generated “porn credits”, their validity period will be one month. This will allow them to access adult content. The most active users will have the right to submit requests for additional credits.

It is expected that the system will be available by the end of summer. It will be voluntary, as internet platforms will have the option of using other age verification methods to screen viewers.

This will be the first practical step to prepare for the entry into force of the European Union law, which from October 2027 provides for a ban on websites providing access to pornography to minors.

Eventually, Madrid’s porn passport will likely be replaced by the EU’s own digital identification system (eIDAS2), a so-called wallet app that helps people access a range of public and private services across the bloc.
