The USA imposes sanctions against Russia for the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine

The United States of America introduced a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. This time, restrictions were introduced in particular against the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine.

New sanctions:

• More than 80 individuals and legal entities associated with:
  the development of the Russian energy, metallurgical and mining sectors;
  evasion of sanctions;
• strengthening of Russia’s military potential.
• 3 Russian government agencies associated with chemical and biological weapons programs.
• 4 Russian companies that support these programs.

According to the US State Department: “The United States will continue to use all available tools to stop support for Russia’s military-industrial base and limit Russia’s access to the international financial system to continue waging war against Ukraine“.

This new round of sanctions complements previous packages of restrictions imposed by the US and its allies against Russia in response to its aggression. These include sanctions on Russian banks, energy exports, and freezing the assets of Russian oligarchs.
