The Verkhovna Rada amended the law on state secrets

The Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 11394, which provides for amendments to Article 8 of the Law of Ukraine “On State Secrets”. 290 people’s deputies voted for this legislative initiative, informs Iryna Gerashchenko, co-chair of the “European Solidarity” parliamentary faction.
The document provides for the expansion of the list of information in the field of state security and law and order, which can be classified as a state secret. In particular, such information includes data on the organization, state, planning and implementation of measures to protect and ensure the safety and stability of critical infrastructure facilities.
An exception is information on the use of funds, with the exception of purchases made within closed procedures in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Defense Procurement”. In addition, information on the creation of a material and technical reserve for responding to crisis situations and eliminating their consequences at critical infrastructure facilities is recognized as a state secret.
Adoption of this law aims to establish legal grounds for limiting access to individual information about critical infrastructure, which will reduce the risks of its uncontrolled dissemination and prevent its use to the detriment of Ukraine’s national security.
