‘The Way of the Veteran”: Ukrainian Veterans’ Fund represents an important resource for defenders

In Kyiv presented the new “Veteran’s Way” guide, which is designed to help servicemen who are leaving the military service, adapt to civilian life. This guide, prepared by lawyers of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, should become an indispensable tool for defenders and their families in solving legal and social issues. The guide is planned to be distributed through territorial recruitment and social support centers (TCC and SP).
The presentation brought together representatives of state authorities, international organizations, public associations and the military themselves. The main purpose of the guide is to simplify the process of leaving the military and to provide military personnel and their families with the necessary information about social benefits, legal procedures and support. It contains step-by-step instructions for various issues, such as exemptions based on health, age or after returning from captivity.
“Today, we already have a significant number of veterans who leave the service for various reasons: due to injuries, wounds or family circumstances. That is why we have to develop effective mechanisms to support and accompany these people. One such mechanism is the “Veteran’s Way” manual , on which the team of the Ukrainian Veterans Fund worked. The TCC and SP are the first point of entry for our defenders when they return home, therefore it is extremely important to direct, coordinate and guide people on their difficult path of return and further reintegration into civilian life.”, — noted Yuliya Kirillova, Deputy Minister of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine.
The idea of creating a guide arose after analyzing requests received by the Ukrainian Veterans Fund’s Crisis Support Hotline. According to the foundation’s lawyer and veteran Yaroslav Khomenko, the goal was to provide clear instructions and recommendations for solving legal issues faced by military personnel and their families.
The guide also contains sections devoted to questions for relatives of defenders who have died or are missing. It describes in detail the algorithms for obtaining benefits and social benefits, which allows families to avoid unnecessary difficulties and waste of time searching for information.
The head of the Department for the Implementation of Social Guarantees of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Colonel Yaroslav Kilinichenko, emphasized the importance of this resource, especially for families looking for answers to legal questions regarding their relatives.
