The West is beginning to feel ‘real fatigue’ from the war in Ukraine: Finnish Foreign Minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Elina Valtonen, expressed concern about the growing fatigue of Western countries in providing support to Ukraine. She stated this in interview Financial Times.
According to Valtonen, Western countries are increasingly tired of the long war, and many states are beginning to look for possible ways to resolve the conflict. Some politicians are already discussing options for a ceasefire in private conversations, despite the fact that Russian troops occupy about 20% of Ukraine’s territory.
“It’s real. And it’s growing”, – emphasized the minister.
She also noted that the conflict in the Middle East diverts the attention and resources of the international community. During the recent UN General Assembly, this issue dominated the discussions, which, according to Valtonen, creates risks for a decrease in support for Ukraine.
“These two conflicts are, of course, very closely related, but it would be important for us Europeans to realize that if we allow Russia to win in Ukraine, we will essentially undermine the credibility of our deterrence.”, – she noted.
Support for Ukraine remains, but its scale and effectiveness raise questions.
Valtonen emphasized the need to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, in particular on the “shadow fleet” of oil tankers that bypass price restrictions and pose a threat to ecology, especially in the Baltic Sea.
Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, during a visit to Berlin and Croatia, said that he wants to end the war by 2025 and sees an opportunity for this in the coming months, hoping for conditions acceptable to Ukraine.
