There is no unanimous position in NATO on Ukraine’s accession: White House

There is currently no unity among NATO countries regarding the provision of an official invitation to the Alliance to Ukraine. About this during the telephone briefing reported an unnamed high-ranking representative of the administration of US President Joe Biden, answering questions about the “Victory Plan” of Ukraine, in particular its clause on security guarantees.

“But, as you know, at the NATO summit just a couple of months ago – in July – all 32 members of the Alliance confirmed that Ukraine is on an irreversible path to membership. So the question is the tactics of how to advance this path and how to reach a consensus on the next steps”, – the official emphasized.

He added that the US administration is working with partners on other components of this plan. According to him, some elements of the plan are long-term and may require many years to be implemented, while others require immediate implementation, in particular in terms of providing Ukraine with the necessary military capabilities now. Some of these steps, as the representative noted, are already being implemented.

The goal of the United States and President Biden is to provide Ukraine with a strong position in the confrontation with Russia.

“We want Ukraine to win this war. And we must give it the opportunities it needs for this. But we cannot do it alone, we must do it together with our partners and allies.”, – emphasized the official.

This issue will also be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the “Ramstein” format, scheduled for November.

He noted that the US understands the urgency of Kyiv’s needs. President Biden is doing everything possible to ensure that Ukraine receives the necessary equipment, because time is playing in Ukraine’s favor, not Russia’s.

We will remind, during the presentation of the “Victory Plan” in the Verkhovna Rada, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that the secret annexes to the plan were handed over to the leaders of the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy and Germany.
