Toyota holds the lead in the global auto industry for the fifth year in a row

According to the results of last year, the Japanese company “Toyota Motor Corp.” once again became the largest car manufacturer in the world in terms of sales. This is the fifth year in a row that the company has maintained leadership in the global market, informs Kyodo News.

In “Toyota Motor Corp.” noted that their automotive group, which includes “Daihatsu Motor Co.” (minicar manufacturer) and “Hino Motors Ltd.” (a truck manufacturer), sold 10.82 million vehicles in 2024. This is 3.7% less than in the previous year. The main competitor “Volkswagen AG” from Germany sold 9.03 million cars during the same period.

Toyota’s sales in North America rose 4.3% to 2.73 million vehicles and in Europe rose 3.6% to 1.17 million units, driven by strong deliveries of the RAV4 and C-HR models. At the same time, in China, the company recorded a decrease in sales by 6.9%, to 1.78 million cars, due to fierce price competition.

Demand for hybrid cars rose 21.1% to 4.14 million units, driven by interest in such models in North America and Europe, amid declining interest in electric vehicles. Sales of Toyota electric cars also showed growth, increasing by 34.5% to reach 139,892 units.
