Trump administration to vet civil service candidates for loyalty to president

The administration of US President Donald Trump is introducing new requirements for candidates for key government positions, paying particular attention to checking their loyalty to Trump personally and their political beliefs. About this informs Bloomberg.
Under the updated rules approved by the Trump administration, applicants must answer four essay questions designed to reveal their political philosophy, commitment to government efficiency and work ethic. The changes apply even to positions in the GS-5 pay scale, where the base annual salary starts at $32,357. These positions include, among others, medical assistants, national park workers and firefighters.
One of the essay questions requires the candidate to name his favorite presidential decrees or policy initiatives and explain how he would contribute to their implementation if employed. Two more questions relate to ways of improving the efficiency of government work and assessing one’s own work ethics.
“Answers must be no more than 200 words. The memorandum emphasizes the inadmissibility of fraud. ‘Applicants will have to confirm that they use their own words and have not engaged consultants or artificial intelligence.'”, the document states.
The 30-page document was signed by White House Domestic Policy Council Director Vince Haley and OPM Acting Director Charles Ezell. Its provisions implement President Donald Trump’s executive order to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs in federal agencies.
