Trump announces tariff talks with Japanese delegation

US President Donald Trump stated that will meet with representatives of Japan. During the meeting, it is planned to discuss issues of mutual customs, trade relations and American military support for Tokyo.
“Hopefully we can achieve something that will be good (Great!) for Japan and the US!” Trump said in a post on the Truth Social platform.
Japan’s economic revitalization minister and chief trade negotiator Ryosei Akazawa is in Washington this week, where he will hold talks with representatives of the US administration on customs policy. He is scheduled to meet with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Wednesday.
Before the trip, Akazawa told journalists that he was convinced of the possibility of building trusting relations between the countries:
“We will be able to build trusting relationships and conduct good negotiations that will lead to mutually beneficial relations.”
We will remind that on April 7, Prime Minister of Japan Shigeru Ishiba said that Tokyo does not plan to take measures in response to the tariffs introduced by the United States, which in the case of Japanese products will reach 24%.
