Trump decides to impose 100% duty on imported films

US President Donald Trump has instructed the Department of Commerce to impose a 100% tariff on all film productions imported into the United States. About this informs BBC.

“The film industry in America is dying fast. Other countries are offering all kinds of incentives to take our film producers and studios out of the United States. Hollywood and many other places in the US are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other nations and therefore a threat to national security.” – Trump said.

It authorized the US Department of Commerce and Trade Representative to immediately impose a 100% tariff on all foreign-produced films without exception. As US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said, his department is already working on the implementation of this decision.

At the same time, Trump’s address did not specify whether the new tariff would apply to American studios that shoot their films outside the United States. It is known that a number of recent film projects were realized abroad by American producers.

It is not yet known whether films posted on streaming platforms such as Netflix, as well as films shown in cinemas, will be taxed, and how the tariff will be calculated, the BBC added.

Recall that on the eve of the inauguration, Trump appointed actors Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as special envoys, instructing them to promote business opportunities in Hollywood.
