North Korea declares readiness to support Russia ‘until victory’

DPRK Foreign Minister Cho Song-hui said that Pyongyang will support Russia until ‘victory’ in the conflict in Ukraine. Her words came during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, Barron’s reports citing AFP.
‘We reiterate that we will always stand firmly on the side of our Russian comrades until the day of victory,’ she stressed.
Lavrov, for his part, noted that the armies and intelligence services of the two countries have established close cooperation, which ‘will help solve important security problems.’ According to him, Russia is ‘deeply grateful to our Korean friends for their principled position on the events in Ukraine’. However, neither diplomat mentioned the possible deployment of North Korean troops in Ukraine.
In the summer, Moscow signed an agreement with Pyongyang on a ‘comprehensive strategic partnership’, which provides for mutual support in the event of aggression against one of the participants.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that North Korean troops were deployed in the Kursk region. The Pentagon has also said that Washington has no plans to impose new restrictions on Ukraine’s use of US weapons, even if the DPRK enters the conflict.
The Ukrainian defence ministry noted that the presence of the North Korean military would not have a significant impact on the fighting in Donbas, but could change the situation in the Kursk region.
