Trump imposed large-scale sanctions on Colombia after it did not accept migrants from the United States

US President Donald Trump introduced 25% tariff on all goods from Colombia and imposed sanctions against this country. This decision was taken after the Bogota authorities refused to accept planes carrying deported migrants from the US a few hours ago.

“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States with a large number of illegal criminals were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by the socialist president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular with his people.”, – said Trump.

The President of the United States said that the ban imposed by the Colombian leader Gustavo Petro on the reception of planes with deported migrants posed a threat to the national and public security of the United States. In response, Donald Trump instructed his administration to take a number of drastic measures immediately.

In particular, he announced the imposition of an extraordinary 25% tariff on all goods imported into the US from Colombia, rising to 50% a week later. It was also decided to ban Colombian government officials, their allies and supporters from entering the US, including by revoking visas. The visa sanctions apply to all party members, families of government officials and supporters of the Colombian government.

Trump also ordered increased customs and border checks for all citizens and cargo from Colombia for national security reasons. The full application of sanctions under the International Economic Emergency Act (IEEPA), including financial, banking and treasury restrictions, was also announced.
