Trump’s associate criticized the initiative of peaceful dialogue with Putin

Senator Mike Rounds, one of the leading associates of the new US president, categorically criticized the idea of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. He emphasized that the Kremlin cannot be trusted, and any Western initiatives regarding an agreement with Russia may be perceived as a sign of weakness. About this informs Political.
Speaking at the International Security Forum in Halifax, Rounds expressed doubts about the possibility of achieving peace through negotiations with Russia.
“As much as I would like to believe that we can negotiate with a tyrant, I suspect that we may be deceiving ourselves. Do you believe that this tyrant, if you offer him a piece of free country, do you think he will stop? I’d say there’s an easy way out, but there isn’t.”, said the senator.
Rounds emphasized that his opinion is not the official position of the incoming administration of Donald Trump. However, his comments reflect support for Ukraine that remains strong among Senate Republicans, even as some MAGA politicians seek to persuade Trump to cut military aid to Ukraine after he returns to power.
“I’m just so upset that we haven’t been able to provide them with all the equipment they need and all the weapons systems they need to respond to the absolute tyranny coming from Russia. I wonder why we didn’t do it sooner than we did“, the American official added.
