Trump’s former lawyer became the US Attorney General

On February 5, the US Senate confirmed Pam Bondi as US Attorney General, who will also head the Department of Justice. About this informs The Hill.
According to the results of the vote, 54 senators supported her candidacy, while 46 spoke against it. Before that, Bondi was the first woman to serve as attorney general of the state of Florida, where she received high praise for her work.
In addition, she previously worked as a lawyer for Donald Trump and defended him during his Senate trial in January 2020, when he was accused of abuse of power and obstructing a congressional investigation.
During her confirmation hearing, Bondi declined to answer a series of questions that she described as hypothetical, including whether she would appoint a special counsel if Trump is indicted for wrongdoing.
She also avoided a direct answer to questions about the results of the 2020 election, not officially recognizing Trump’s defeat, although she referred to Joe Biden as the current president of the United States during his term.
We will remind that Trump initially nominated Florida congressman Matt Geitz for this position – his loyal supporter, who was involved in a federal investigation in the case of human trafficking. The case was closed without charges, but the House of Representatives separately considered his possible sexual relations with minors and illegal drug use.
