Trump sets new deadline for Russia to reach deal with Ukraine

US President Donald Trump announced a new deadline for Russia to end the war against Ukraine. That’s what he’s about stated during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, in the Scottish town of Turnberry.
“I’m going to set a new deadline for about 10 or 12 days from today. No reason to wait”, – emphasized Trump.
According to him, the previous deadline of 50 days was chosen because he wanted to be “generous”. At the same time, the US president indicated that he does not see progress in efforts to end the war waged by Russia against Ukraine. However, he stressed that he has no intention of acting harshly towards Russia, explaining it by the fact that he “loves the Russian people”.
“I talked to Putin and it seemed like we were on the road to peace. And then I said, forget about it. And I’m not going to talk anymore. You know, it’s happened too many times and I don’t like it.”— Trump said.
According to the American president, according to the latest estimates, about 7,000 soldiers die on the front every week. He added that time will tell whether “common sense” will prevail and whether Putin will agree to a peace agreement.
“There may be sanctions and probably tariffs, secondary tariffs”Trump added.
It will be recalled that on July 14, Donald Trump announced that he would give Russia a 50-day deadline to reach an agreement on ending the war. According to him, after the end of this period, which expires on September 3, he is ready to introduce sanctions, in particular, increased tariffs against Russia itself and the countries that continue to purchase energy carriers from it. Trump also expressed his willingness to allow US allies to buy American weapons for transfer to Ukraine. A number of states, in particular Germany, have expressed interest in participating in this scheme.
The official reaction from Moscow was restrained. The Kremlin did not change its position, reiterating that Russia supposedly seeks peace, but only on terms that Kyiv sees as de facto capitulation — in particular, it refers to the demand that Ukraine relinquish part of the territories, including those that Moscow currently does not control or has never controlled at all.
