Two years of “Ramstein”: Ukraine will receive F-16 aircraft and new weapons

For two years, Ukraine has been cooperating with international partners within the framework of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Rammstein format.

On April 26, another meeting of representatives of the defense departments of the partner countries took place. On the eve of the meeting, Rustem Umyerov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, spoke about what was achieved thanks to “Ramstein”. In turn, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin spoke at the meeting about the priority areas of support for Ukraine that will be considered this time. In particular, the head of the Pentagon announced the transfer of F-16 aircraft along with pilots and personnel to the Armed Forces, as well as new air defense systems.

“Two years ago, our struggle for freedom received unprecedented support from 54 countries, including all NATO and EU member states. Subsequently, it was the Rammstein format that gave impetus to the creation of 8 coalitions focused on strengthening our military capabilities in such critical areas as air force, air defense, artillery and maritime security. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, our allies have allocated billions of US dollars in aid to Ukraine’s defense efforts.”, – Umerov noted.

The minister thanked the partners for supporting the country for two years and talked about the current defense needs.

“Today, during another online meeting of the contact group, together with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, we called on our partners to provide the necessary weapons and discussed logistics,” the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said.

Also partners will discuss during the next “Ramstein”. acceleration of the provision of defense aid to Ukraine from the USA and the introduction of additional sanctions against Russia.
