Ukraine and Japan sign agreement to receive $3 billion from frozen Russian assets

Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement that paves the way for receiving $3 billion from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation within the framework of the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) initiative. About this reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.

“Ukraine and the Japanese agency JICA have signed an agreement necessary to receive $3 billion under the ERA initiative. The funds will be repaid from the income received from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation. The resource will be directed to priority budget expenditures for the development of the economy and the strengthening of Ukraine.”, – said the head of the government.

Shmyhal thanked the representatives of Japan and G7 partners for the implementation of the mechanism that makes it possible to make Russia bear financial responsibility. He noted that Ukraine has already received 14.7 billion dollars as part of the ERA.

“We continue to work on an international instrument that will allow the confiscation of all frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.” – added the Prime Minister.

We will remind, on May 2, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the agreement with Japan, which provides for the attraction of about 3 billion dollars within the framework of the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) initiative.
