The Verkhovna Rada abolished the confiscation of the property of corrupt officials, adopting a law on the deprivation of awards: Shabunin

The Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the deprivation of state awards from persons accused of collaborationism. However, at the same time, the possibility of confiscating the property of corrupt officials who cooperate with the investigation was canceled.

On this problem indicated Vitaly Shabunin, head of the board of the Anti-Corruption Center. He emphasized that the confiscation of property of corrupt persons is one of the key requirements of the European Union for providing financial aid to Ukraine in the amount of 4 billion euros. The absence of this provision in the draft law jeopardizes the receipt of these funds.

“True, I don’t think that Zelensky is the author of throwing Europeans. But he bears political responsibility for people who saw this problem for sure, but specifically left it in the text. And it doesn’t matter whether it is the head of the specialized committee of the Rada Ionushas, ​​or Yermak’s deputy – Tatarov”, – noted Shabunin.

Vitaly assumes two possible scenarios of the development of events. In the first case, the cancellation of the confiscation was the result of an error or oversight during the preparation of the bill submitted to the Council by the President. If this is the case, then the deputies will correct the situation in the near future, and the persons responsible for this mistake may be punished.

The second version of the development of events assumes that the cancellation of the confiscation was a conscious decision hidden in an important draft law on depriving collaborators of state awards. In this case, there is a risk that the deputies will leave the situation unchanged.

“However, the money was received, and after that the Ukrainian authorities stupidly abandoned the Europeans. Let me remind you that the bill on depriving collaborators of state awards was introduced by the president. However, I do not think that he is the author of throwing Europeans. But Zelensky bears political responsibility for people who saw this problem precisely, but specifically left it in the text. And it doesn’t matter whether it is the head of the profile committee of the Rada Ionushas, ​​or whether Yermak’s deputy is Tatarov”, – emphasized the head of the CPK.
