Ukraine and the United States held the first round of consultations on a new agreement in the field of minerals. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine received the text of the American proposal on March 28. About this reported Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga.
The Ukrainian side was ready to sign the previously agreed framework agreement, but a new version of the document is currently being developed, taking into account the requirements of national legislation.
“Accordingly, the necessary procedures have been carried out to start the necessary domestic procedures. I also confirm that we have already started consultations with the American side regarding the text of the agreement.”, – explained Sybiga.
According to him, Ukraine is interested in reaching agreements that will take into account the interests of both sides. The minister also noted that the participation of large American companies in this direction will strengthen the security component in Ukraine.
“It was such a technical meeting online (between Ukraine and the USA), there were deputies, lawyers, some of our government officials. They actually started (discussions of the agreement), now they will work out our first vision, then they will continue to talk with the Americans.” – added the minister.
We will remind that in February it was planned to sign a framework agreement on rare earth resources, but this did not happen due to the conflict between Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Donald Trump that happened in the White House. Subsequently, it became known that Washington handed over an updated draft of the agreement to Kyiv.
At the same time, People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that the updated document is mainly commercial in nature and significantly limits the rights of the Ukrainian side.
