The Ministry of Reintegration announced the launch of a new “Mine Safety” simulator on the Diya.Osvita portal

The Ministry of Reintegration of Ukraine announced the launch of a new “Mine Safety” simulator on the Diya.Osvita educational portal. This tool was developed in cooperation with the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations (SES) and is intended for training Ukrainians in the rules of safety in conditions of a mine threat.

The simulator has an interactive format that allows users to test and improve their mine safety knowledge by experiencing realistic situations. Users are presented with video clips that reflect real-life circumstances, and then have to choose the correct action from several suggested options.

For example, in the first part of the simulator, a situation is demonstrated when a family returns to their house after the deoccupation of the city and discovers an explosive object near the gate. It is up to users to decide which action would be safest in this situation. Among the options, there are four possible solutions, and after choosing, the user receives an explanation from experts, which helps to understand the correct algorithm of actions.

The simulator consists of three main parts:

  1. De-occupied territories – this module is aimed at those returning to liberated towns and villages where explosive devices may still remain.
  2. Frontline Cities – This section teaches users about security in regions near active combat zones.
  3. All of Ukraine – general safety rules for detecting suspicious objects, which may be relevant in any part of the country.

This educational tool is part of a larger informational campaign “Notice the changes”, which was launched in June 2024 and is aimed at increasing the awareness of Ukrainians about mine danger. The purpose of the campaign is to educate citizens on the rules of behavior in potentially dangerous situations and to reduce the number of victims from explosive devices left after hostilities.

“Ukraine is included in the list of countries with the greatest mine threats in the world, because 24% of its territory is potentially dangerous due to mines. Places where you used to spend time as a child – fields, forests, even private plots – can now hide dangers.

The new “Mine Safety” simulator on the Diya.Osvita platform will help you learn the correct response in the event of emergency situations involving mines and other explosive objects. To reduce risks, it is important to understand what signs and markings indicate danger, to be able to recognize suspicious objects and to know how to act when they are detected.

You can test your knowledge of these issues with the help of an interactive simulator, which is part of the “Notice the Changes” information campaign that started in June. Along with the series on the topic, the simulator allows users to learn more about:

  • how to determine dangerous and safe zones;
  • what actions should be taken when a suspicious object is detected;
  • how to react if you find yourself in a mine danger zone.

The speaker of the simulator is Ivan Shepelev, an expert of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Interactive tasks are accessible to people with hearing impairments, as all content is translated into sign language.” point out in the State Emergency Service.

The simulator helps not only to work out the algorithms of safe behavior, but also to increase the general level of safety of the population in territories that may be mined or pose another threat due to military actions.
