Ukraine attracts international business to support environmental reforms and green recovery

Ukraine engages international business in supporting environmental reforms and green recovery of the country. About this informs press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk held a meeting with Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce John Denton and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine Hennadiy Chyzhikov.
“Just a month ago, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine had a constructive dialogue with Ukrainian enterprises regarding the course of environmental reforms and ways of balancing with economic development. We are currently scaling up our cooperation with international business as well.” – stressed Svitlana Grynchuk.
She emphasized that the experience of world leaders in the field of ESG, climate technologies and circular economy is important for Ukraine in the recovery process. ICC can become a reliable partner in conveying the needs of Ukraine to the world business community and donors, as well as contribute to the international recognition of Ukrainian green initiatives. Ukraine has an ambitious goal of achieving climate neutrality, and it is important to implement new low-carbon climate technologies in all sectors of the economy during reconstruction.
“Currently, a draft law “On green recovery” is being developed in Ukraine, which will determine the criteria for the evaluation and selection of “green” projects that will be financed with the funds of international aid and the climate fund. This law will become the basis for transparent investment attraction and stimulate the transformation of the economy. In the near future, we plan to submit it for public discussion, including discussion with business.” – explained Svitlana Grynchuk.
The minister also discussed the possibilities of attracting investments through free carbon markets. As part of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, Ukraine already has agreements on cooperation with Switzerland and Japan, and is also conducting negotiations with Singapore. Free carbon markets are a new but promising direction for the country.
Preparations for participation in the next UN Climate Change Conference, which will be held in Brazil, were also discussed. The CIS is not only a platform for making global political decisions, but also an opportunity to attract new investments.
