Ukraine hopes for Vatican’s support in releasing prisoners from Russia: Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Russia continues to hold thousands of Ukrainian citizens captive. To date, it has been possible to return home 3,767 Ukrainian men and women, most of whom required long-term treatment and rehabilitation after being captured.

The President emphasized the importance of the support of international partners in the release of Ukrainian citizens from Russian captivity, especially counting on the help of the Vatican.
“Together with everyone in the world who respects human life, we must do everything to free everyone. We count on the help of the Vatican and all our partners.”Zelenskyi added.
We will remind, on October 19, another exchange of prisoners of war took place between Ukraine and Russia, as part of which 95 Ukrainian soldiers and hostages of the Kremlin regime returned home. Among them are the fighters of the 12th special forces brigade of the Azov National State University, whom Russia sentenced to life imprisonment, as well as human rights defender and journalist Maksym Butkevich, co-founder of the ZMINA Center.
