Ukraine is ready to take Hungary’s place in the EU and NATO: Foreign Ministry statement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to Hungary’s statements about the termination of the transit of Russian gas and the impact of this decision on the rise in prices in Europe. stating about Ukraine’s readiness to replace Hungary in the European Union and NATO, if it decides to change its course in favor of the CIS and the CSTO.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the Hungarian leadership’s statements about the negative impact of Ukraine’s decision on the transit of Russian gas are politically motivated and aimed at a domestic audience. The Ministry reminded that the European Commission clearly stated in its statement dated January 1, 2025: Ukraine’s decision did not have a negative impact on the energy security of EU countries or consumer prices on the European market.
Diplomats emphasized that the cause of problems in the European energy market has always been Russia, which has used energy as a tool of blackmail for decades. With the start of full-scale aggression against Ukraine, the Kremlin has become a threat to stability and peace in Europe, which is bringing the end of the era of dependence on Russian energy carriers to a close.
“If the priority for the Hungarian side is to strengthen Russia, then it should be frankly admitted. Ukraine will be ready to take a free place in the EU and NATO if Hungary decides to vacate it in favor of membership in the CIS or CSTO. If Hungary really wants to help end the war, it should start by not destroying unity in the EU, but strengthening the energy security and independence of our own country and citizens together with the rest of Europe and the USA.” – emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
