Ukraine launches Inferno project to document conditions of prisoners of war in Russia

In Ukraine presented the Inferno project, which is aimed at documenting and systematizing facts about the conditions of detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russian captivity.
The project is designed to accumulate all available information about prisoners of war, including from open sources – public posts, interviews and testimonies. Inferno is a joint initiative of the Association of Families of Defenders of Azovstal and the Department of International Cooperation of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov”. The goal of the project is to draw attention to human rights violations in captivity, including torture, psychological pressure, deliberate malnutrition, lack of medical care and other forms of ill-treatment.
As Oleg Gushchyn, a representative of the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, explained, the testimonies given during the interviews – both from military and civilian persons – can be made public on open platforms, including the Inferno project, provided that this data does not contain confidential information or violate the private interests of third parties.
Nestor Barchuk, a representative of the International Cooperation Department of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov”, noted that currently Ukrainian prisoners of war are being held in hundreds of locations on the territory of Russia and temporarily occupied regions. The project website has published a map with marked places where, according to available information, prisoners are held.
If a person has verified information about the whereabouts of Ukrainian prisoners of war or the conditions of their detention – in particular, testimonies, documents or other materials – he can submit this data through the feedback form posted on the website.
