Ukraine launches pilot project to improve security in educational institutions

The government has decided to launch a pilot project to improve safety in schools, developed by the Ministry of Education and Science together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Emergency Service. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science.
The project provides for
- the work of inspectors of the educational security service of the National Police;
- introduction of an access control regime to protect against unauthorised persons and prohibit the introduction of hazardous substances;
- ensuring road safety near the school, including the installation of pedestrian crossings with lighting;
- other measures aimed at protecting children, teachers and school administrators.
As explained by the Ministry of Education and Science, the participation of schools in this pilot project is voluntary. Schools with more than 200 pupils studying full-time or in a mixed format can independently decide to join.
The ministry also said that institutions that voluntarily join the project will receive assigned DRS inspectors. Currently, there are more than 940 school safety inspectors working in Ukrainian schools.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers approved another pilot project to create protected learning spaces in schools without shelters to provide opportunities for offline learning.
