France was also affected by the accident, but power has already been restored there. The Portuguese operator of electricity grids reported that the cause of the blackout was a “rare atmospheric phenomenon”.

The Ministry of the Interior of Spain has declared a state of emergency due to a failure in the power grid. Large-scale power outages in Spain and Portugal could last up to seven days. Nuclear and wind power plants remained without power.
