The government will tighten control over fundraising for charity

The Cabinet of Ministers plans to strengthen control over the transparency of charity collections. About this reported Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal following the results of the coordination meeting of the government.

“After the last high-profile case, he instructed the Ministry of Social Policy to prepare proposals for strengthening the reporting and transparency of charity collections”, Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister has not disclosed the details yet.

We will remind, on June 18, a scandal broke out in social networks involving 31-year-old Lviv resident Nazarii Husakov. The scandal surrounding Nazarii Husakov erupted after the journalist Khudetska on the social network X accused him of fraud during the collection of funds for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Later, the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy, stated that the city, together with the drug manufacturer, had been providing Husakov with the necessary drug for free for a year.

Husakov himself declares that he collected the funds not only for the drug, but also for the accompanying costs associated with treatment and care. Regarding the information about transactions of more than $5 million through his crypto wallets, he explained that he helped others to legalize winnings from poker and gambling games, receiving a percentage from it. As of now, Husakov has stopped fundraising.

The Minister of Internal Affairs reported to Volodymyr Zelenskyi about the situation. The President informed that Husakov left Ukraine about a week before the scandal began. So far, law enforcement agencies have opened two criminal proceedings regarding possible fraud related to his charitable activities. The National Police is waiting for appeals from possible victims in connection with the actions of the Lviv resident diagnosed with SMA.
