A new batch of inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine in the amount of 138,000 doses was delivered to Ukraine. About this informs Ministry of Health.

“A new batch of inactivated polio vaccine is already in Ukraine. 138,000 doses of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) have arrived in the country as part of the cooperation of the Ministry of Health with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi)”, – the message says.

The Ministry of Health reminded that according to the National Vaccination Calendar in 2025, vaccination against polio involves the administration of IPV to children at 2 and 4 months, and the oral polio vaccine (OPV) at 6, 18 months, and at 6 and 14 years.

Polio is an infectious disease that affects the central nervous system and can lead to paralysis or death. The most vulnerable group is children under 5 years of age. The last case of poliomyelitis in Ukraine was recorded in 2021. Vaccination remains the only effective means of protection against the disease. For vaccination, you need to contact your family doctor, therapist, pediatrician or the nearest health care facility. All vaccinations provided by the calendar of preventive vaccinations are free of charge.

The partnership agreement between Gavi and Ukraine was signed at the end of 2024. According to it, part of the vaccines to support the national immunization program according to the national strategy for the development of immunoprevention until 2030 is financed by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The purchase and delivery of vaccines to Ukraine is provided by UNICEF Ukraine, and distribution by region is coordinated by the Center for Public Health of Ukraine.
