Ukraine remains the most mined country in the world — the area of ​​potentially dangerous territories is about 139,000 square kilometers. About this reported Mykola Didyk, head of the humanitarian demining department of the State Emergency Service.

“Unfortunately, Ukraine remains the most mined country not only in Europe, but also in the world. According to official statistics, the area of ​​potentially contaminated territories is about 139,000 square kilometers.” Didyk noted.

According to him, 31,000 square kilometers of the indicated area are de-occupied territories, where humanitarian demining is already underway.

“The most difficult situation is in the territory of Donetsk region, as well as the de-occupied territories of Kharkiv, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, where the occupiers stayed for a longer period of time”, – emphasized Didyk.

The State Emergency Service urges citizens to be extremely careful, avoid contact with suspicious objects and report them immediately by calling 101.

“Since February 24, 2022, sappers of the State Emergency Service have defused more than half a million explosive items, surveying more than 1,700 square kilometers of territory. Every day, our pyrotechnic units carry out dozens of trips, during which they detect and neutralize about a hundred ammunition. In addition to demining territories, the State Emergency Service pays great attention to training adults and children in mine safety rules.
