Ukraine returns seriously ill and under 25 defenders from captivity

Ukraine returned from captivity seriously ill defenders and defenders younger than 25 years, most of whom had been in captivity since 2022. About this reported President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Among those released are defenders who defended the country in Donetsk region, in particular in Mariupol, as well as in Luhansk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Servicemen of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Service and the State Special Transport Service have returned to Ukraine. In addition, it was possible to free civilians held captive by the occupiers.

“Exchanges must continue, and I thank everyone who ensures this. The goal of Ukraine is to free all our people from Russian captivity. Thank you to everyone who helps to do this.” – said the president.

In the Coordination Headquarters explained, that the exchange took place in accordance with the Istanbul Agreements. The categories of returnees include those with injuries or serious illnesses, as well as military personnel under the age of 25. The youngest of the released soldiers is 20 years old, and the oldest is 59. Among them are soldiers, sergeants and officers. Illegally convicted defenders and Ukrainian civilians who were deprived of their liberty were also returned.

We will remind you that the process of exchanges started on June 9, when it was possible to return the first group from among the wounded, seriously ill and young people.
