Ukraine will intensify the fight against the theft of cultural property

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications (MCSC), the Office of the President, the Economic Security Council, the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the Ukrainian Center for the Development of Museum Affairs have decided to strengthen the fight against the theft of cultural values. About this informs MKSK.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine (MCSK) held a working meeting with representatives of the Office of the President, the Economic Security Council, the Ukrainian National Committee of ICOM and the Ukrainian Museum Development Center. The main topic was the development of a comprehensive mechanism for applying sanctions against individuals and legal entities of the aggressor state involved in the theft of cultural values ​​in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Separately, they discussed the issue of bringing to justice the management of Russian museums, which illegally register stolen Ukrainian cultural values ​​in their funds. It was also about measures aimed at preventing the active international activity of Russian museum workers.

The participants emphasized the importance of international coordination to combat the illegal appropriation of Ukrainian cultural heritage and considered ways to strengthen cooperation with foreign partners to develop effective response mechanisms.

The ICRC continues its active work on the protection of Ukrainian cultural heritage, in particular by participating in international initiatives aimed at identifying and blocking the illegal circulation of stolen cultural objects.
