Ukrainians received fewer green cards in the USA

The US green card is a kind of analogue of a permanent residence permit in the country. Its owners can freely move around the United States, work, use the services of insurance companies, banks and other institutions on an equal basis with Americans. There are only a few aspects that distinguish green card holders from citizens. For example, you cannot vote in elections.
Statistics of issuance of green cards
During the last fiscal year, 11,200 Ukrainians received American green cards. This is somewhat less than in 2022 (11.7 thousand).
On the other hand, Russians were granted a record number of green cards last year – 12,700. The previous record for obtaining the right to permanent residence in the USA was set by citizens of the Russian Federation in 2016. Then they received 9,800 green cards. Such data was published by the immigration agency Second Wind.
Mexicans remain the leaders in obtaining permanent residence permits in the United States.
Americans continue to support Ukrainian refugees
According to the data a survey commissioned by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), more than half of US citizens believe that the US government should provide refugees from Ukraine with housing, food and other basic needs, as well as education and health care. Also, the majority of respondents (52%) believe that after providing basic needs, Ukrainians should be given the opportunity to work in the United States.
Nevertheless, only 44% of the surveyed Americans were in favor of the fact that Ukrainians should be granted a permit for a long-term stay in the country. 34% of respondents are against long-term protection, and another 22% are undecided about the answer to this question.
