A Green Card is your key to safe travel abroad, providing financial protection in the event of a traffic accident. Since international insurance regulations affect your rights and options, it is important to follow changes in rates and conditions.

What is a “Green Card” and why is it needed?

“Green Card” is an international auto civil liability policy, which is mandatory for all drivers who travel outside of Ukraine in their own vehicle. The policy covers damages caused to third parties as a result of a traffic accident.

The “Green Card” system operates in 48 countries, and the presence of this certificate ensures:

  • Compensation for damages caused to victims of road accidents due to your fault.
  • Financial compensation if you are the injured party in an accident caused by a foreign driver.
  • Guaranteed payments if the accident was caused by an uninsured driver.

How tariffs are set

The maximum amount of insurance payments under “Green Card” contracts in euros is approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. However, the MTSU periodically revises tariffs in accordance with changes in the official exchange rate. Thus, payments remain relevant for Ukrainian drivers and correspond to the market situation.

It is important to note that all insurance companies that are full members of the MTSU are obliged to adhere to uniform tariffs.

Future changes in insurance conditions

Ukrainian drivers should prepare for the innovations that will come into effect from the beginning of 2025. In particular, it is possible to update the requirements for autocivilka databases and other regulatory changes that will affect the process of concluding contracts.

Understanding the new tariffs for the “Green Card” will help Ukrainian drivers to avoid unpleasant surprises when crossing the border. By having a valid insurance policy, you not only meet the requirements of the law, but also protect yourself and other road users from possible financial losses. So, while preparing for the trip, do not forget to check the current rates and take out the policy in advance.
