Ukrainians will be reimbursed over 1 million hryvnias due to errors in billing for utility services

Ukrainian consumers will be reimbursed more than 1 million hryvnias due to discovered errors in utility bills. About this informs State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
Since the beginning of the year, specialists of the State Production and Consumer Service have conducted 98 unscheduled inspections of enterprises providing housing and communal services. The results proved the existence of systemic violations in the field of formation and application of tariffs.
The purpose of the inspections was to find out how reasonable and legal tariffs are set for the population. In 86 out of 98 verified cases, which is almost 88%, a violation of the legislation was recorded. Most often, problems arose in the field of water supply and drainage.
As a result of the measures, the State Production and Consumer Service issued 42 decisions on the imposition of fines in the amount of 1.59 million hryvnias, issued 68 orders to eliminate the detected violations and obliged enterprises to return 1.16 million hryvnias to consumers. 43 officials were brought to administrative responsibility, the total amount of fines imposed on them amounted to 87 thousand hryvnias.
“Protection of consumer rights is our priority. We promptly respond to cases of unjustified tariff increases, because transparency and fairness in their formation is a basic right of every citizen, not an exception.” Andrii Kreitor, deputy head of the State Production and Consumer Service, emphasized.
