Von der Leyen said that in the near future she will focus on forming a new team of commissioners for the next five years.
“In the coming weeks, I will ask the leaders to propose their candidacies. As last time, I will ask in the letter to propose the candidacy of a man and a woman. The exception is only in the case when the candidate is an incumbent commissioner.”, she explained.
Von der Leyen plans to interview all candidates in mid-August.
“I want to choose the most prepared candidates who share the commitment to Europe”, – she emphasized, adding that she will strive to achieve equal representation of women and men in the new European Commission.
Von der Leyen was re-elected head of the European Commission thanks to the votes of 401 members of the European Parliament.
In her election program, she promised to focus on the defense policy of the European Union, increasing its competitiveness and integration of Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and the countries of the Western Balkans.
