US and Allies: China aggressively recruits Western fighter pilots

China’s military appears to be ramping up efforts to recruit current and former Western fighter pilots, using new and more sophisticated tactics to lure Western specialists. This was reported by the publication “Voice of America”.

The United States and some of its closest intelligence partners have warned that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is using private companies, including corporate recruiters, to keep Western pilots in the dark about ties to the Chinese military until it is too late.

According to the U.S. and its allies, China wants to train its fighter pilots more effectively while gaining a better understanding of how Western air forces operate. This could nullify the West’s advantage or even enhance the capabilities of Chinese fighter jets in the event of a conflict.

A bulletin issued by the Five Eyes alliance, which includes the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, said the Air Force used private companies in South Africa and China to recruit Western pilots and attract them with lucrative salaries.

The bulletin notes that other methods of recruitment include the use of personal acquaintances, professional networking sites and online job search platforms. The bulletin warns that ties to the Chinese government or military are often hidden.
