American destroyers stationed in the eastern Mediterranean Sea successfully intercepted several missiles fired by Iran at Israel on the evening of October 1. As informs the Washington Post newspaper, citing a source in the US Department of Defense, said that the British military also participated in this operation. Official confirmation from the Pentagon has not yet been provided.
According to US defense officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, US destroyers responded to the threat in time and prevented potential damage by striking a significant blow against the missiles fired by Iran.
For his part, British Defense Minister John Healy said that British forces also played an important role in repelling the Iranian missile strike. He emphasized the importance of the actions of his military, noting their courage and professionalism in preventing further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
This attack was part of a massive Iranian attack on Israel, which Iranian representatives at the UN called a “legitimate response” to Israel’s actions against Iranian citizens and encroachment on the country’s sovereignty. Iran threatened “devastating” consequences in case of an Israeli response.
Earlier, the White House expressed fears that Iran was preparing to launch a ballistic attack on Israel in the coming hours. At the same time, Israel launched the “Northern Arrows” ground operation in southern Lebanon, aimed at targets of the Hezbollah group.
