The gas distribution system is paralyzed: Aliyev predicts difficulties for Ukraine without the support of Azerbaijan
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev reported on intensive negotiations, which have been going on for several months, regarding the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through the territories of Russia and Ukraine.
According to Aliyev, Russia, Ukraine and European institutions have addressed Azerbaijan with a request to ensure the continuation of gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transport system.
“I can say that Russia, Ukraine and European institutions have turned to us in connection with the continuation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine. For several months, we have been making great efforts to reach a common denominator.”, — informs the press service of the President of Azerbaijan with reference to Aliyev’s words at the anniversary 50th TEHA Forum in Chornobbio, Italy.
“If the transit stops, and it will happen in December, several countries of the European Union will face serious difficulties with the physical availability of natural gas. We just want to support these countries and Ukraine, because if the transit of gas stops, then the gas distribution system of Ukraine will be completely paralyzed.”, – added Aliyev.
The President also noted that Azerbaijan acts as a mediator in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia regarding the continuation of the transit of Russian gas and the supply of Azerbaijani gas through both countries to Europe.
“Now, in fact, through the mediation of Azerbaijan, both countries are conducting negotiations on the continuation of the transit of Russian gas and the supply of Azerbaijani gas through Russia and Ukraine to Europe,” Aliyev said.
Aliyev also emphasized that Azerbaijan maintains strong and pragmatic relations with both Ukraine and Russia. He emphasized that the country is determined to support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, but is not part of the anti-Russian sanctions
