US House of Representatives fails to support Trump impeachment resolution

The US House of Representatives has overwhelmingly rejected an attempt to impeach President Donald Trump over strikes on Iran. Voting took place along two-party lines, informs Fox News.
A resolution of impeachment introduced by Congressman Al Green was defeated by a vote of 344 to 79. The initiative was supported by 128 Democrats, who joined all 216 Republicans.
On June 24, Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, announced his intention to impeach Donald Trump, accusing the president of “failing to notify or obtain authorization from Congress” before the US struck three Iranian nuclear sites.
The resolution stated that Trump “abuses his authority, ignoring the principle of separation of powers, and turns American democracy into authoritarianism by unconstitutionally usurping the power of Congress to declare war.”
Green, who has previously threatened impeachment, explained his position:
“I did not come to Congress to be a bystander as the president abuses his power and turns American democracy into authoritarianism while being an authoritarian president himself.”
Green used the expedited procedure to bring the resolution to a vote. The initiative was supported by some Democrats, including New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who also called for Trump’s impeachment over the strikes on Iran.
