The United States has imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia’s energy sector

The US Treasury has introduced new sanctions aimed at Russia’s oil sector. Information about it published on the official website of the department.

The sanctions include the blocking of the assets of the two largest Russian oil companies, Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, as well as their subsidiaries. Also, 184 tankers from Russia’s “shadow fleet”, which the country uses to circumvent sanctions and transport oil, have come under restrictions.

In addition, the sanctions affected the vessels of the Sovcomflot company, the largest in Russia, and Rosnefteflot, the division of Rosneft. Additionally, restrictions were imposed against the Serbian company NIS, owned by Gazprom Neft.

The sanctions list also included the companies “Ingosstrakh” and “Alfastrahovanie”, which are engaged in marine insurance. The provision of US oil services to persons in Russia is prohibited, which deprives the country of access to American technologies necessary for the production and processing of oil. The sanctions also affected 17 companies and three individuals from Hong Kong, Latvia, Liberia, the UAE and Russia, suspected of trafficking Russian oil.

These sanctions became one of the toughest sanctions against the Russian oil industry, which, according to forecasts, will significantly affect oil exports to the main buyers – India and China. Until now, hundreds of vessels and numerous Russian oil traders have avoided serious restrictions.
