US launches investigation into former FBI and CIA directors

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has opened criminal proceedings against former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey. About this reported portal Fox News Digital.
The investigations stem from alleged irregularities in earlier government investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election, in which Donald Trump defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The extent of the proceedings against Brennan and Comey is currently unclear. The report indicated that CIA Director John Ratcliffe, a Trump appointee, had turned over documents related to the activities of Brennan — who served under Barack Obama — for potential prosecution.
Criminal investigations do not always lead to formal charges. Brennan had no immediate comment, and Comey could not be reached for comment. The investigations involve two former senior officials who have long been criticized by Donald Trump and his supporters for their involvement in the Russian meddling case in the 2016 election.
Comey led the FBI in 2016 when law enforcement officials opened a case about possible collusion between Trump’s campaign team and the Russian government to influence the results of the election. In 2017, Trump fired Comey after he publicly confirmed that he was under investigation.
The case was then taken over by special counsel Robert Mueller, who indicted several Trump associates but found no evidence of criminal collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Over the years, Trump has repeatedly condemned the investigation itself, calling it a “Russian fake.”
At the same time, an internal review of the activities of the CIA found flaws in the preparation of the US intelligence assessment of Russian interference in the 2016 election, but the main conclusion that Russian President Vladimir Putin tried to influence the vote in favor of Trump remained unchanged.
