European politicians are stunned by Biden’s poor performance at the debate: the media

After the first presidential debate in the United States, which took place recently, European politicians expressed their disappointment and concern about the speech of American President Joe Biden. According to The Guardian reports, the debate has sparked serious debate on the European political scene, with many politicians expressing doubts about Biden’s continued effectiveness as US leader.

Guy Verhofstadt, a well-known member of the European Parliament and former prime minister of Belgium, stressed that his concern about the state of American democracy has increased as a result of Biden’s speech at the debate. He expressed concern that “gerontocracy is killing democracy before our eyes”, stressing the need for a generational change in politics.

Norbert Rettgen, a German foreign policy expert, commented that “this night will not be forgotten”, pointing to the importance of rethinking approaches to international cooperation in conditions where the US may not provide stability and predictability in its foreign policy actions.

Radoslaw Sikorski, Poland’s foreign minister, compared the situation to the history of the Roman Empire, warning of the possible consequences of “decline” if the US does not change its approach to global leadership.

Carl Bildt, a former prime minister of Sweden and co-chair of the European Council on Foreign Relations, criticized Biden’s speech, calling it “extremely weak,” which could strengthen populist movements in Europe and support some negative trends in world politics.

Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, a member of Germany’s Free Democratic Party, expressed her outrage at what she believes is Biden’s inability to effectively compete with Donald Trump, which could lead to unforeseen consequences for global political stability.

Matteo Renzi, the former prime minister of Italy, emphasized the need for a strong leader for international relations and expressed doubts about whether Biden can effectively change the situation in the United States and the world.
