US Senate Committee Approves $500 Million in Security Assistance to Ukraine

The US Senate Armed Services Committee has approved the allocation of $500 million for security assistance to Ukraine within the defense budget for the 2026 fiscal year. About this informsReuters agency.

The National Defense Appropriations Act (NDAA), which determines the amount of funding for the US Armed Forces, was passed by an overwhelming majority of 26 votes to just one. The total funding for national defense in the document is $925 billion, of which $878.7 billion is earmarked for the US Department of Defense.

The draft law provides for the continuation of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative until 2028, as well as an increase in its funding: from $300 million in the 2025 fiscal year to $500 million. To take effect, the NDAA must be approved by the full Senate, the House of Representatives, and signed by Donald Trump.

We will remind, on July 2 it became known that the United States temporarily suspended the supply of some anti-aircraft missiles and high-precision ammunition to Ukraine due to concerns about the state of its own arsenals. The very next day, information appeared that the US Department of Defense continues to provide President Donald Trump with recommendations regarding further military support for Ukraine.

Subsequently, the media reported that the US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth independently decided to stop the supply of some types of weapons, despite the fact that the analysis did not reveal any threats to the combat capability of the US forces. On July 8, Donald Trump assured that the United States will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine. The Pentagon announced a new package of military aid.
