US universities stop recruiting due to Trump’s threats

American universities have stopped recruiting new employees because of US President Donald Trump’s promises to cut federal funding. About this informs Bloomberg.

Earlier, the US president’s administration said it would cancel $400 million in federal grants and contracts for Columbia University over concerns about anti-Semitism on campus.

Harvard University President Alan Garber noted that the institution will also have to prepare for a wide range of financial circumstances. According to him, it will take time to implement changes in the budget, and the adjustment of the financial strategy will involve limiting new long-term obligations. Last academic year, Harvard received about $700 million in federal funding.

At the same time, Stanford and Cornell universities, as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, announced the suspension of hiring new employees.
