US wants to know Zelensky’s plans to strike Russia before giving permission: Bloomberg

The US plans to get detailed information from President Volodymyr Zelensky about his plans to launch strikes on Russian territory before lifting restrictions on the use of Western weapons. About this informs Bloomberg, citing unnamed officials.

According to the agency, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and British Foreign Minister David Lammy intended to push Zelenskyi and his team to develop a long-term war strategy for the next year. The US seeks to understand Kyiv’s ultimate goals and exactly how Western support can help achieve them before making decisions on further arms supplies.

Bloomberg notes that this week no significant changes are expected in the US position regarding the authorization of long-range strikes on Russian territory.

It is worth recalling that on September 13, US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plan to meet in Washington to discuss the issue of using long-range weapons to strike Russia.

The Guardian noted that Great Britain has already given Ukraine permission to use Storm Shadow cruise missiles for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation.

What is known about the use of Western weapons for attacks on Russia

On August 16, the British edition of The Times reported that the United States actually blocks Ukraine’s use of Storm Shadow missiles for strikes against Russia. Britain sent a corresponding request to the US more than a month ago, but did not receive a response. However, the White House denied this information.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on August 19 that if Western partners had lifted all restrictions on the use of long-range weapons, Ukraine would not have had to conduct an offensive in the Kursk region. He also emphasized the need for missiles, since not all targets on the territory of the Russian Federation can be destroyed with the help of drones.
