The ex-head of the Western Economic Court of Appeal was released from custody after making bail

Former chairman of the Western Commercial Court of Appeal Borys Plotnitskyi came out out of custody after posting bail in the amount of 30.28 million hryvnias. This amount was determined by the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (SAC) as an alternative to detention.

“A bail of UAH 30.28 million was made for the suspected former chairman of the Western Commercial Court of Appeal, which was determined by the investigating judge of the State Criminal Court as an alternative preventive measure”Olesya Chemerys, head of the VAKS communications department, said.

Borys Plotnytskyi was arrested as part of the criminal proceedings conducted by NABU and SAP. According to the investigation materials, the suspect, together with another former and current head of the Economic Court of the Lviv region, promised for $1 million to ensure the adoption of “necessary” court decisions in the Western Commercial Court of Appeal.

During the pre-trial investigation, NABU detectives and SAP prosecutors documented the transfer of part of the bribe in the amount of $75,000. Subsequently, Borys Plotnitskyi was charged with abuse of influence for obtaining an illegal benefit. He became the third suspect in this case.

Plotnytskyi’s case is considered in the context of a large-scale investigation that covers serious corruption abuses in the judicial system. Posting bail does not release the suspect from responsibility: if proven guilty, he may face severe sanctions provided for by law.
