Vance considers a quick cessation of hostilities in Ukraine unlikely

US Vice President J.D. Vance does not share optimistic predictions about a quick end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. His position contrasts with the statements of Donald Trump, informs BBC.

Vance said that the current task of the United States is to facilitate the achievement of a “compromise position” between Russia and Ukraine to end the war.

“Now that each side knows the other’s peace terms, it’s up to the Russians and the Ukrainians. It’s up to them to reach an agreement and end this brutal, brutal conflict.” he explained.

Despite this, Vance believes that the end of the war in the near future is unlikely.

“It’s not going anywhere. It’s not going to end anytime soon.” – added the vice president.

At the same time, Vance defended Donald Trump’s approach to the Ukrainian issue.

“Yes, of course the Ukrainians are angry that they were attacked. But are we going to continue to lose thousands and thousands of soldiers across a few miles of territory this way or that?” Vance concluded.

We will remind that, according to the spokeswoman of the US State Department, Tammy Bruce, Washington no longer plans to act as a mediator in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. She emphasized that now is the moment when Kyiv and Moscow should put forward their own clear proposals for ending the war.
