Vignettes for Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic: changes from 2025

Vignettes are electronic permits required to use toll roads in the Czech Republic. For many Ukrainian refugees who were forced to stay in this country because of the war, the availability of such permits plays an important role in mobility, job search and solving everyday issues. In the conditions when a significant part of Ukrainians faces economic difficulties, any increase in prices becomes a serious challenge for family budgets.

Increase in prices for vignettes from January 1, 2025

From the beginning of 2025, the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic introduces new tariffs for road vignettes, which are mandatory for the use of most of the country’s highways. The changes will affect all types of vignettes:

The annual vignette will increase in price by 140 kroner and will cost 2,440 kroner (instead of the current 2,300 kroner).

The monthly vignette will increase in price to 460 kroner (currently 430 kroner).

The ten-day vignette will increase in price by 20 kroner and will be 290 kroner (instead of 270 kroner).

A one-day vignette will increase in price by only 10 kroner and will cost 210 kroner.

These changes are aimed at maintaining the road infrastructure, but they may make travel more difficult for many Ukrainians who use personal transport.

What can be done to save money

For those who use the roads of the Czech Republic, there is an opportunity to save by buying vignettes at the old prices until the end of 2024. It is most convenient to do this on the official website, where information about all types of permits is available.

In addition, it is important to remember that for trips in the Czech Republic and other European countries, it is mandatory to have a Green Card – an international auto civil liability policy.

The impact of changes on Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic

For many Ukrainian families who have settled in the Czech Republic, the car has become not only a convenient means of transportation, but also an important tool for maintaining contact with the Motherland and other Ukrainian communities. However, increases in vignette prices and a possible increase in Green Card tariffs from 2025 could further strain the budgets of those already in a difficult financial situation.

The Czech Republic remains one of the friendliest countries to Ukrainians, but such changes require adaptation. Ukrainian communities are actively working on finding solutions to help their compatriots. For example, joint activities are organized to promote better integration and create support for those who need help with transport issues.

What you should know about the Green Card in 2025

Starting next year, Ukrainian insurance companies will have more freedom in setting tariffs for Green Card policies. This means that the cost of insurance may increase, especially given the increase in prices in the market of insurance services.

To avoid unpleasant surprises, you should purchase the necessary policy for 2024 in advance. This will not only save money, but also avoid inconveniences when crossing the border.

The increase in prices for road vignettes in the Czech Republic and the possible increase in the price of Green Cards in 2025 will be an important challenge for Ukrainian refugees. When planning your travels or calculating your budget for next year, you should take these changes into account and look for ways to minimize costs.

At the same time, it can become an incentive to find alternative options for movement, including public transport or joint trips, which are actively organized by Ukrainian communities in the Czech Republic. Mutual support and timely information will help Ukrainians to adapt to new conditions and maintain their mobility even in difficult circumstances.
